North Norfolk International Terminal (NNIT)

Crews continue their work at the North Norfolk International Terminal (NNIT), building on a strong history of work at the Port of Virginia, including previous expansion efforts at the south terminal. As the largest single contract in company history, this $296 million Optimization Project reflects ongoing involvement in the port’s long-term growth and capacity improvements.

Work at NNIT focuses on redeveloping approximately 74 acres to support 18 new semi-automated container stacks. Crews have been managing extensive demolition and grading while installing underground utilities, including fire protection systems. The team is also building out critical electrical and communications infrastructure, highlighted by the construction of a new on-site substation. In addition, crews are completing concrete and steel structures, installing crane rail, and progressing paving, striping, and site development. High mast lighting and other support systems are being installed to ensure the terminal is fully operational and equipped for increased cargo capacity.

This work builds directly on similar stack construction efforts previously completed at the port, further strengthening the company’s role in expanding terminal capacity. As construction progresses, crews are focused on preparing the site for crane delivery and testing, keeping the project on track as part of the broader Gateway Investment Program to enhance the Port of Virginia.
