I-64 Segment II Widening

In April 2019, our team completed the addition of a third lane along seven miles of I‑64 through Williamsburg, VA, part of $138 million design‑build effort for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the largest of its kind in Virginia at the time.

This project, one of three separate VDOT contracts, expanded capacity, improved safety, and advanced the long‑term program to widen I‑64 from Richmond to Virginia Beach. It also brought this portion of the interstate up to current design standards and reduced congestion.

I-64 Segment II Widening stretched from Route 199 near exit 242 to Route 238 near exit 247, widening the interstate to three lanes in each direction. Work included reconstruction of existing lanes, widening nine bridges, and expanding six box culverts, with most improvements built within the median to minimize right‑of‑way impacts.

Construction began in 2016 and featured the use of cold central plant recycling (CCPRM), a sustainable material produced from reclaimed asphalt pavement sourced from regional projects.
